IGCSE Study Buddy

For Cambridge / Edexcel IGCSE students

A cross-platform application for IGCSE exam preparation — past-paper questions, locally graded MCQs, LLM-graded structured questions with part-by-part breakdowns, and per-topic progress tracking.

Structured question with AI feedback on landscape tablet.

Context

IGCSE Study Buddy is a cross-platform application for IGCSE exam preparation. Students work through past-paper questions classified by curriculum topic, with locally graded multiple-choice questions and LLM-graded structured questions providing instant feedback. Per-topic accuracy tracking feeds targeted practice.

Scope

Embedded Crew built IGCSE Study Buddy across desktop and Android-tablet form factors. The question bank covers Cambridge Physics, Edexcel Mathematics, and Edexcel Chemistry, with every past-paper question classified by curriculum topic.

Multiple-choice questions are graded locally against the official key — no LLM call for the binary right/wrong outcome — with optional on-demand AI explanations. Structured questions are routed through an LLM with the official marking scheme as ground truth; the LLM returns part-by-part breakdowns of the structured answer.

The interface supports mathematical input through LaTeX rendering, table-based answers, inline formula editing, and diagram-accompanied questions. Students can configure their preferred LLM provider across Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, and OpenRouter routing. Per-topic accuracy is tracked locally and drives targeted practice-quiz generation. Local MCQ grading keeps API costs predictable, with the cost behavior validated through token-usage tracking per question.

Result

Three O-Level subjects are ready in the application: Cambridge Physics, Edexcel Mathematics, and Edexcel Chemistry. The application has not yet been deployed to students.
